This is the page for anyone who wants to know exactly what arrives before they order it. A hand-painted commission from a working artist is a different product with a different price and a much longer wait, and if that is what you want, that is what you should buy; we are not going to quote you a figure for one, because we have no source for it. What we make is a painted-style portrait drafted with AI, checked by a person, and printed to order in Britain. Every size and price is on the formats page, where it is read from the database rather than typed into a sentence that goes stale.
What the canvas looks like
We render your photo in the style of a 19th-century oil portrait, soft natural light, painterly brushwork, warm earth tones (cream, moss-green, muted rose, stone), neutral background. Shoulders-up composition, alert, eyes to camera. No cartoons, no templates, no costumes. The painting reads as a painting, not a photograph.
Materials, as the manufacturer describes them
Everything below is read off the product code our printer actually fulfils, not off a brochure. Where their code does not say something, we do not say it either.
- Canvas: canvas, stretched over a 2cm FSC-certified wood frame. We used to call it "matte archival canvas, hand-stretched"; the manufacturer's own specification says none of those three things, so nor do we now.
- Canvas sizes: 30x40cm and 50x70cm.
- Framed canvas: a wood frame, 14mm wide and 32mm deep, in black, dark wood or natural wood at 30x40cm, and in black or natural wood at 40x50cm. There is no oak, there is no gilt, and there is no mount: the print fills the opening.
- Paper prints: 250gsm uncoated off-white archival paper, at A3, A2 and 50x70cm.
- Framed paper prints: the same paper behind plexiglass, not glass, in a 12mm by 22mm wood frame, black or natural wood at A3 and black at A2.
- Where it is made: printed to order in the UK, and posted to UK addresses only.
Sizes and framing
Every size, frame and price is listed on the formats page, which reads them from the database. We deliberately do not repeat prices in the writing on this site: a typed figure drifts the moment anything is repriced, and a stale price on a memorial page is a bad way to meet somebody. For the pre-framed version, see the framed portrait.
What we don't do
We don't invent pets. We don't stitch together "memory portraits" of pets you never photographed. We don't take cartoon themes, your dog won't become a Renaissance king in a ruff collar. If the painting on screen does not look like them, you do not accept it, and you are not charged. If a printed canvas arrives damaged, misprinted or not what you ordered, our delivery and returns page applies: email within 30 days with your order reference and a photo, and we reprint or refund, your choice.
Delivery
Made to order, then posted: about four to nine working days in total. Delivery is included and we ship within the UK only. The estimate is shown before you pay.
