For a lot of people, a framed portrait is what they mean when they say "a portrait on the wall." The canvas stretcher is the artist's object; the frame is the finished, gallery-ready object. We're offering both, the choice is yours.

Two sizes

Both framed sizes are vertical canvas in a slim wood moulding, with the exact profile and every material on the specification page. Hanging hardware comes pre-fitted on the back.

30x40cm, in black, dark wood or natural wood. The same proportions as the unframed canvas, now framed. Right for a hallway, a bedroom wall, above a desk.
40x50cm, in black or natural wood. A gallery scale: it fills a living-room wall without dominating the room, and it is the largest framed canvas we print. Dark wood is not made in this size, which is the manufacturer's decision rather than ours.

Three frame colours

The colours are different finishes on the same wood profile, and the manufacturer names a colour rather than a timber species, so neither do we. The full construction is on the specification page. Price varies a little by finish and size and is shown before you order; dark wood is made at 30x40cm only.

Black. The cleanest choice. Works with a pale wall and a coloured portrait; reads as editorial rather than traditional.
Dark wood. A deep walnut-adjacent stain. Warmer than black, still formal.
Natural wood. Oak-adjacent, pale and quiet. For rooms with a lot of wood already, or where you don't want the frame to compete.

The same painting, presented as a gallery piece

Framed and unframed versions use the same artwork, the painted-style portrait rendered from your photo, in the house style we already apply to every canvas. The frame doesn't change the art; it changes the object the art arrives as.

Delivery and what's in the box

5–9 working days to UK addresses, printed and assembled at a single facility. Arrives wrapped, with hanging hardware fitted. Delivery is included in the price, and we deliver to UK addresses only. Each item prints in the UK, so customs is never involved.

A custom pet portrait you can hang straight away

A framed pet portrait is the version of a custom pet portrait that arrives ready for the wall, no separate framing trip, no choosing a mount that doesn't quite suit, no stretching or stapling. It is the same painting we make for every customer, in the same warm 19th-century oil-painting style, but presented as a finished object rather than a printed canvas you then have to figure out. Framed pet portraits in the UK tend to fall into two camps: mass-printed images in plastic-effect frames at one end, and studio-painted commissions at the other. We sit between them. The painting is rendered from your photograph in our house style, and the frame is wood, 14mm wide and 32mm deep, which is what the manufacturer's specification says and as much as we are prepared to claim about it.

For dogs and cats

Every framed pet portrait we make is of a dog or a cat. The order is the same for both: you upload a photograph, and we render the painting from it in the house style. Larger dogs and cats land especially well in the 40×50cm size, where the head fits with more presence. For another species, get in touch, we don't paint horses, birds, or small pets yet, but we'd like to hear from you.

A framed pet portrait as a gift, birthday, Christmas, and the others

A framed canvas as a gift sits oddly between two registers. It's too considered to be casual, a framed portrait isn't a stocking-filler, and too quiet to be theatrical. The right occasions are usually the considered ones: a milestone birthday for someone whose dog has been with them for a decade, a Christmas gift for a parent whose cat has been in every family photograph since the children were small, an anniversary of a pet's arrival rather than their loss.

Christmas gifts in particular benefit from ordering early. Framed canvases take 5–9 working days to print and ship in the UK; if you'd like a framed pet portrait under the tree, place the order by the second week of December at the latest. If the framed pet portrait is for someone who doesn't yet know it's coming, you can ship to a third address and we'll wrap and box it without any branding visible from the outside.

Multi-pet portraits, and watercolour vs painted-style

We can paint two or more pets together in a single framed canvas, provided you have a usable photograph of them in the same frame, same lighting, same orientation, both faces clearly visible. Composite portraits (two pets photographed separately, painted as if together) are not something we currently offer; the seam tends to read, and we'd rather not make a piece you'd find unconvincing later.

Our house style is painted-style oil, warm earth tones, visible brushwork, 19th-century portrait conventions in composition. Watercolour is the other one people ask for, and we do paint it: soft translucent washes, visible paper grain, luminous white-paper highlights.
